
Africa is a continent not a country. People usually mistake it for a country. It is a continent consisting of roughly 56 countries. As of 2024, Africa's population is around 1.55 billion people, and that makes up approximately 19% of the world's population.

On the 8th of July 2023, Burna Boy held a show at Citi Field stadium with a capacity of roughly 41,800 people; making him the first African artist to sell out a U.S. stadium. Burna Boy's given name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, and he's from Nigeria. He is also a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and record producer, known for blending Afrobeat, dancehall, reggae, and hip-hop in his music.

Ethiopia is Africa's oldest independent country. It dates back to 3000 years, with the ancient Kingdom of Aksum being one of the most prominent early civilizations in the region. Ethiopia has the unique distinction of having retained its sovereignty for much of its history, except for a brief period of Italian occupation from 1936 to 1941 during World War II.

There are roughly 2000 languages spoken in Africa. Nigeria alone has more than 500 languages.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is World Trade Organization’s first female president. She was first elected on March 1, 2021, and as of 2024, she was re-elected for a 2nd term, starting 2025. She is from Nigeria, and she's a well renowned economist and former Finance minister.

Alongside Amazon river, river Nile is the longest river. Estimated at roughly 6650km. This river flows through several countries in north-east Africa.

Funmilayo Ransome Kuti is the first black woman to drive a car in Nigeria, and possibly in the whole of Africa. This act was significant as it represented defiance against gender inequality in colonial Africa. Funmilayo Ransom Kuti is also the mother of the popular Nigerian musician, activist, and pioneer of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti. Having studied abroad, his music was used as a means to critique corruption, inequalities and injustice in Nigeria and Africa.
